What is BHMS Internship?
The BHMS Internship is a 1-year compulsory practical training after completing your final exams.
During this period:
- You are no longer just a student
- You become an intern doctor
- You start treating patients under supervision
It is usually done in:
- Your college hospital
- Or an affiliated homoeopathic hospital/clinic
Total Duration of BHMS Internship
- 12 months (1 year)
- Includes:
- Weekly offs
- National holidays
You must complete this internship to:
- Get your BHMS degree
- Obtain registration from the State Homoeopathic Medical Council
Eligibility Criteria of BHMS Internship
To start internship, you only need:
- Pass all BHMS exams (all 4 professional years)
- Clear final BHMS
- Get provisional degree certificate
After this, apply for:
- Provisional/temporary registration from State Council
Internship Start Date
- Regular Batch: April (first working day)
- Supplementary Batch: September (first working day)
Attendance Rules of BHMS Internship
- Minimum 80% attendance is compulsory
- Daily duty: 6–8 hours
If attendance is low → your internship may be extended
Leave Rules
- Total allowed leave: 12 days in 1 year
- Extra leave = Internship extension
Other points:
- Leave must be approved by HOD
- Internship must be completed within 24 months after final BHMS
Stipend During BHMS Internship
As per NCH guidelines:
- Interns should receive stipend equal to other medical interns
Applicable to:
- Government colleges
- Private colleges
Log Book Requirements
You must maintain a logbook with proper case records.
Minimum Cases Required:
Practice of Medicine
- 40 Acute cases
- 25 Chronic cases
Obstetrics & Gynaecology
- 5 Antenatal cases
- 3 Deliveries attended
- 3 Gynaec cases
Surgery
- 5 Surgical cases
All must be properly written and signed
Dissertation / Project Work for BHMS Internship
Every intern must complete a research-based project.
Timeline:
- Planning: 3 months
- Data Collection: 3 months
- Writing: 3 months
Requirements:
- Minimum 1500 words
- Typed format
- Spiral binding + soft copy
- At least 2 hard copies
- Topic approval from HOD
Submission:
- At least 1 month before completion
- Presentation required
When is BHMS Internship Considered Complete?
You must:
- Complete all case records
- Submit dissertation
- Get signatures of all HODs
Only then you will receive your internship completion certificate
Migration During BHMS Internship
Yes, it is allowed (with conditions).
Between Different Universities:
- Approval from both colleges & universities
Within Same University:
- Consent from both colleges
Required Documents:
- Bonafide certificate
- Application
- NOC (if needed)
